Pallion lies just south of Sunderland city centre along the River Wear, a former shipbuilding district now turned residential. The A690 provides the main western approach, whilst the A183 coastal route and A1231 Wessington Way offer quick local connections. The area retains remnants of Pallion Shipyard, where Sunderland's famous flying boats were built.
