Oldtown lies in Aberdeenshire's Garioch valley, about 50km northwest of Aberdeen via the A96 and B9002 through Insch. Local routes include the B993 from Alford and connections from the A944. The village church houses a remarkable collection of Pictish symbol stones discovered during 1960s restoration work.
