North Scale occupies the northern tip of Walney Island, reached via the historic Jubilee Bridge from Barrow-in-Furness. The A590 from the M6 provides the main approach, with local routes serving the small island community. Electric vehicle charging is available in nearby Barrow. The 1908 swing bridge still opens for passing boats, temporarily cutting the island's only road link.
