Nithside forms part of greater Dumfries on the west bank of the River Nith, reached via the A75 east-west route and A76 from the north. Popular journeys include quick trips into Dumfries center and longer runs to Castle Douglas or north toward Glasgow. The red sandstone towers of Dumfries Academy are visible across the water from certain spots.
