Newbattle lies in Midlothian's Esk Valley, just south of Edinburgh via the A720 bypass and A68. The A6094 runs through the town, connecting Dalkeith and Bonnyrigg, whilst the A7 provides links to Edinburgh and the Borders. Around 150 public EV chargers serve the area. The town's centrepiece is the magnificent 12th-century Newbattle Abbey, now an adult education college overlooking the River South Esk.
