Nethermuir lies in rural Aberdeenshire, about 40km northwest of Aberdeen via the A90 and A950. Local roads connect it to nearby New Deer and Auchnagatt, whilst longer routes from Inverness use the A96 and A920. The area has roughly 7 EV charging points scattered about. Traditional stone farm steadings with distinctive red pantile roofs still dominate this working agricultural community.
