Myrtleville is a quiet coastal village on Cork Harbour's southern shore, about 20 kilometres southeast of Cork city. Take the N25 east from Cork, then the R624 south through Carrigtwohill, roughly 25 minutes by car. Cork Airport is 15 kilometres northwest. The village sits in a sheltered spot along the harbour's eastern edge, well protected from Atlantic swells. It's handy for exploring East Cork, with Fota Island Golf Course and the Jameson Distillery in Midleton nearby. The Victorian bandstand overlooking the harbour dates from the 1890s when the village was a fashionable seaside retreat for Cork's well-to-do.
