Murrisk

united kingdom

Murrisk sits beneath Croagh Patrick, the holy mountain where St. Patrick fasted for 40 days, drawing pilgrims and hikers to its 764-meter summit year-round. The village lies just off the N59 coastal road, an easy 8-kilometer drive from Westport along Clew Bay's shore. Most approach via the R335 from Westport or the longer route from Dublin through Castlebar on the N5 and N84. Electric vehicle drivers will find around 20 fast chargers in the Westport area. The National Famine Monument, a bronze coffin ship sculpture commemorating those who fled during the 1840s famine, stands as the village's most moving landmark.
