Monkseaton lies just inland from Whitley Bay on the North Tyneside coast, connected to Newcastle by the A1058 Coast Road and served by the Metro. The A19 provides faster north-south links, whilst local routes serve nearby coastal towns. Newcastle International Airport sits 20km west. The town's Metro station features the distinctive 1980s geometric canopy typical of the Tyne and Wear system.
