Monkleigh is a small North Devon village reached via country lanes from the A386 through Great Torrington, which connects south to Plymouth and northwest toward Bideford. The A39 Atlantic Highway provides the main coastal route about 10km north. Local roads link surrounding villages like Frithelstock and Buckland Brewer through rolling agricultural countryside. The 13th-century church of St. George features a rare medieval rood screen with painted saint panels.
