Merton lies in mid-Devon's countryside, about 15 miles southwest of Great Torrington. Reach it via the A386 from Bideford or Okehampton, or take country roads from the A377 near Crediton. Long-distance visitors use the A30 to Okehampton then head north, whilst locals travel short distances between neighbouring villages like Huish and Petrockstow. The village church of St. Andrew houses a remarkable 15th-century painted rood screen.
