Mepal is a small Cambridgeshire village in the heart of the Fens, reached via the A142 from Chatteris or through minor roads from Sutton. The flat fenland terrain and straight roads make for straightforward driving, with about 40 EV chargers in the area. St Lawrence Church houses remarkable medieval wall paintings discovered hidden under whitewash during restoration.
