Melby perches on Shetland's wild western coast, a tiny settlement facing the Atlantic with views across to Papa Stour island. Drive west from Lerwick via the A970 and A971 through Walls, then follow local roads for the final stretch to this remote corner of Mainland. The 45-minute journey from the capital showcases Shetland's dramatic landscapes, whilst the beach here stays empty even in summer.
