Mauld sits along the A831 in Glen Strathfarrar, about 25km southwest of Beauly. Most visitors pass through on Highland touring routes or when heading to fishing spots along the River Farrar. The settlement's name comes from the Gaelic "maol," describing the bare, rounded peaks that frame the glen on both sides.
