Markinch lies in central Fife along the A911, easily reached from the M90 motorway via Glenrothes. The town serves as a useful stop between Kirkcaldy and inland Fife, with Markinch railway station providing direct links to Edinburgh and Aberdeen. The surrounding countryside features gentle hills and farmland typical of central Scotland. Balbirnie Stone Circle, dating back 4,000 years, stands just outside town as one of Scotland's most complete Bronze Age monuments.
