Marble Arch marks the junction of Oxford Street, Park Lane and Edgware Road at Hyde Park's northeast corner. The A40 Westway provides the main western approach, whilst Park Lane connects from the south and Marylebone Road from the north. Long-distance visitors typically arrive via the M1 or A4 from Heathrow. The white marble monument was originally built as Buckingham Palace's entrance gate but relocated here in 1851 when it proved too narrow for the state coach.
