Machen

Machen is a former mining village in Caerphilly County Borough that's become a popular spot for Cardiff and Newport commuters. Take the A468 from either direction, or join it from the M4 via Castleton. The village sits in typical Valleys countryside with good links to neighbouring settlements like Caerphilly and Trethomas. Machen Mill, one of Wales' few working watermills, still operates on the Rhymney River.
