Longdendale follows the Pennine valley where Manchester meets Derbyshire, accessed via the M67 then A628 Woodhead Pass towards Sheffield. The route's notorious for winter closures but offers dramatic moorland scenery. Charging points are plentiful around Glossop and the Manchester end. The valley's defining feature is its remarkable chain of five Victorian reservoirs, built as Manchester's water supply and now creating an unusual stepped sequence of artificial lakes stretching over three miles.
