Longbottom occupies a natural hollow in the Somerset countryside between the Mendip Hills and Bristol Channel. The A38 provides the main connection north to Bristol and south to the M5, whilst local roads link to Cheddar, Winscombe and the coastal resorts. Bristol Airport is easily accessible for visitors. The village's name reflects its geographic position in a natural depression between the surrounding hills.
