Lidgate lies in Suffolk countryside between Newmarket and Haverhill, reached via the A143 and connecting country lanes. Most visitors arrive from Newmarket (15km northwest) or Haverhill (similar distance south), whilst Cambridge sits about 30km away through Newmarket. The village boasts one of Suffolk's finest medieval castle earthworks, with substantial 11th-century ramparts still clearly visible beside the parish church.
