Leadhills perches high in the Southern Uplands, reached via the B797 from Junction 13 of the A74(M) at Elvanfoot. The narrow road climbs through dramatic moorland to this remote village, continuing to neighbouring Wanlockhead for a scenic circular route. It's home to the Leadhills and Wanlockhead Railway, operating on Britain's former highest adhesion railway line.
