Lanchester is a County Durham village about 12 miles northwest of Durham city, reached via the A691 from the A1(M). The former mining settlement sits in elevated countryside near the Browney Valley, with good connections to Newcastle (15 miles) and local villages. Electric vehicle charging is plentiful with around 200 fast chargers nearby. The village preserves earthwork remains of Longovicium, a Roman fort on the ancient Dere Street route.
