Lancaster lies between the Lake District and Yorkshire Dales, serving as Lancashire's historic county town. The M6 provides the main access via junctions 33 and 34, whilst the A6 runs through the city connecting north to Kendal and south to Preston. Popular routes include the scenic A6 to Windermere and coastal drives via the A589. The medieval castle remains a working Crown Court after 900 years of continuous judicial use.
