Kilvaxter is a small settlement on Skye's northeastern coast, reached via the A87 and A855 through Portree. The journey from Inverness takes about two and a half hours, whilst local trips from Portree or Uig are much shorter. The village sits on the Trotternish Peninsula overlooking the Sound of Raasay, where a small ferry still operates the historic crossing to Raasay island.
