Kilrush is a Heritage Town on the Shannon Estuary in County Clare, where Ireland's longest river meets the Atlantic. The N67 connects it to Kilkee 13km away, while the N68 runs inland to Ennis 43km northeast. Most visitors arrive by car as there's no rail service, though electric vehicle drivers will find about 13 fast chargers for Wild Atlantic Way touring. Once part of the West Clare Gaeltacht until 1956, the town retains fine 18th and 19th-century architecture around its original market square, where the old stone market house still stands with its distinctive arched openings.
