Killaloe
Ireland
Ireland
Killaloe sits where Lough Derg meets the River Shannon, straddling Clare and Tipperary and linked by a lovely 13-arch stone bridge from 1770. The R463 connects you to the N7 via Nenagh, about 20 kilometers southeast, while Limerick is 25 kilometers southwest on the same road. The scenic R352 hugs Lough Derg's eastern shore if you're coming from Portumna. The cathedral houses a rare Ogham stone with both ancient Irish script and Norse runes, one of only a few bilingual stones in Ireland.
