Keel

Ireland
Keel sits on Achill Island's western shore, overlooking a gorgeous three-kilometre stretch of golden sand that's earned Blue Flag status. You'll reach it via the N59 from Westport through Newport, then the R319 across Michael Davitt Bridge, about 45 minutes in total. The village makes a grand base for exploring other spots on the island like the Deserted Village at Slievemore and Keem Bay. There's decent charging for electric cars, which is handy given how remote it is. The annual half marathon in March sees runners pounding along the spectacular coastal route.
