Keekle is a small west Cumbrian village surrounded by former mining communities like Cleator Moor. Access via local roads connecting to the A595 coastal route, which links north to Carlisle and south to Barrow. Most journeys are short local trips between neighbouring towns, with Whitehaven the main centre 6km northwest. The village takes its name from the beck that flows through it.
