Itchen forms part of Southampton's eastern suburbs, sitting where the River Itchen meets the Solent. The M27 motorway provides the main access route, with Junction 8 leading onto the A3024 through the area. Local drivers use the A3025 Portsmouth Road for north-south travel, whilst the district connects easily to Southampton city centre and nearby Woolston. The medieval Itchen Bridge carries traffic across the river, offering views of the busy container port below.
