Infirmary occupies central Manchester between the city centre and university district, just a kilometre from Moss Side and two from the main campus. Major routes include the A57(M) Mancunian Way from the M60, the A6 from the south, and local arteries Oxford Road and Wilmslow Road. Manchester Airport is 15 kilometres south via the A6. The area takes its name from the historic Manchester Royal Infirmary, which served the city for over 150 years before relocating.
