Inchicore lies 5 kilometres southwest of Dublin city centre along the Liffey, built around the railway works that still operate today. The neighbourhood connects easily to central Dublin via the N4 and South Circular Road, with drivers typically approaching from the M50 at Junction 7. The massive red-brick Railway Works, established in 1846, dominates the area where Irish Rail continues maintaining trains in the same Victorian locomotive sheds that have defined this working-class district for over 170 years.
