Idole lies 6 kilometres northeast of Carmarthen in the Tywi Valley, accessible via the A40 and local roads through typical Carmarthenshire countryside. The A40 connects eastward to Llandeilo and westward to Pembrokeshire, whilst the A485 provides northern access from Lampeter. Around 50 fast EV chargers serve the Carmarthen area. The village name derives from the Welsh "eidol," meaning ardent or zealous.
