Howth perches on a peninsula 15 kilometres northeast of Dublin city centre, where the Irish Sea crashes against gorse-covered cliffs. The DART line runs direct from the city via the R105 through Clontarf, while drivers can take the M1 to R139 then R106 through Sutton. The cliff road around Howth Head offers cracking views but mind the narrow bends. The village still centres on its working harbour where you can buy fresh fish straight off the boats at West Pier.
