Hownam is a small Borders village nestled in the Kale Water valley, reached via the B6401 from the A698 near Morebattle. Most visitors arrive from Kelso or Hawick along the A698, whilst Edinburgh day-trippers use the A68 route. Electric vehicle drivers will find around 10 fast chargers in the area. The village sits beneath Hownam Rings, an Iron Age hillfort with 2,000 years of continuous settlement.
