Hooke sits in west Dorset's rolling countryside, surrounded by chalk downs and the Piddle Valley's green fields. The village connects via the A37 from Dorchester (15km southeast) or through country lanes from the A356 near Crewkerne. It's a popular base for exploring ancient drove roads and nearby hamlets like Toller Porcorum. The 13th-century church contains a rare medieval wall painting of Saint Christopher.
