Holt Head lies in the Colne Valley between Huddersfield and Oldham, accessible via the A62 Manchester Road. Most visitors approach from the M62 at Junction 22 (from Manchester) or Junction 23 (from Leeds direction), then follow local roads up into the Pennine foothills. The settlement occupies typical elevated ground where former textile communities developed. The local parish church contains a rare 15th-century rood screen that survived the Reformation.
