High Etherley is a former County Durham mining village perched above the Wear Valley, about four miles west of Bishop Auckland via the B6282. The A68 provides the main north-south route through the area, connecting to the A1(M) at Scotch Corner. Electric vehicle drivers can access roughly 100 fast chargers in the surrounding region. The old Victorian railway station, now a private home, still stands as a reminder of the village's coal mining past.
