Heddle is a small Orkney settlement reached via the A965, which runs between Kirkwall and Stromness. Most visitors fly into Kirkwall Airport then drive the 10 kilometres west, though some arrive by ferry at Stromness. The village sits amongst typical Orcadian farmland of rolling green fields divided by ancient stone dykes. Heddle lies close to Skara Brae, the remarkable 5,000-year-old Neolithic village that's older than both Stonehenge and the pyramids.
