Hawkshead is a medieval Lake District village between Esthwaite Water and Coniston Water, reached via the A591 and B5285 from major routes. The car-free centre preserves cobbled squares and whitewashed buildings, including the grammar school where Wordsworth studied. Popular with tourists visiting nearby Beatrix Potter sites, it offers traditional Lakeland charm amid the central fells.
