Grimsay occupies a tidal island between North Uist and Benbecula, reached via causeway on the A865. Benbecula Airport lies just south, making this a convenient base for exploring the Western Isles. The island retains several inhabited blackhouses with their characteristic stone walls and thatched roofs, built to endure Atlantic storms.
