Gorthleck lies on Loch Ness's southeastern shore, reached via the B862 from Inverness (25km via Dores) or from Fort Augustus through Whitebridge. The village sits where ancient flagstones naturally surface in the surrounding fields, giving the settlement its Gaelic name meaning "field of flagstones."
