Gomersal lies in West Yorkshire between Cleckheaton and Birstall, easily reached from M62 Junction 26 via the A638. The A651 runs through the town center, connecting Bradford and Dewsbury, whilst the nearby A650 links to Leeds. Most journeys are local cross-Kirklees trips, though long-distance traffic uses it as an M62 corridor route. The historic Red House mansion inspired Charlotte Brontë's novel "Shirley" through her friendship with the Taylor family.
