Galway sits where the River Corrib meets the Atlantic, with the Aran Islands visible on clear days from the waterfront. The M6 from Dublin is the main route in, taking about 2.5 hours for the 208-kilometer journey. Day trippers often head west on the N59 to Westport or south to Ennis via the N18. The medieval city center has narrow cobblestone streets filled with traditional pubs and street musicians, who are such a part of Galway's character that the city has designated official busking spots on Shop Street.
