Frosterley lies in Weardale's limestone country, reached via the A689 valley road that links Wolsingham and Stanhope. Most visitors arrive from the A68, turning west at West Auckland for the scenic drive along the River Wear. The village sits amongst typical Pennine countryside, with over 30 fast EV chargers available nearby. Frosterley's famous black limestone, called Frosterley Marble, was quarried here for Durham Cathedral's medieval construction.
