Fownhope lies along the River Wye, about 8km southeast of Hereford via the B4224. The A49 provides the main approach from the M50 at Ross-on-Wye. This small Herefordshire village sits amongst gentle farmland typical of the Welsh borders, with narrow country lanes connecting to Mordiford and Holme Lacy. The historic New Weir on the River Wye remains the village's most distinctive feature.
