Fordwich, just outside Canterbury, claims the title of England's smallest town despite having fewer residents than most villages. The A28 provides the main access route, with most visitors approaching via Canterbury or the M2 from London. This ancient Cinque Port on the River Stour maintains its own mayor and medieval town hall, a tiny timber-framed building that doubles as both museum and working civic chamber.
