Foindle lies in remote Sutherland, reached via the A894 through Scourie. This tiny Highland settlement sits amongst dramatic coastal scenery where Atlantic weather shapes the rugged landscape. Most journeys are local trips between scattered communities, with longer routes heading south toward Ullapool. The name derives from Gaelic "foinne" for the golden gorse that brightens the surrounding moors each spring.
