Fermoy sits on the M8 between Dublin and Cork, making it a handy stop for travellers heading either direction. Cork city and airport are just 30 minutes south, while the town connects easily to Mallow, Limerick, and Waterford via good roads. Built around an 18th-century garrison, Fermoy straddles the River Blackwater, which flows right through the centre. The Blackwater's known as the "Irish Rhine" and draws anglers from across Europe for its salmon and trout fishing, with some beats going back over 200 years.
