Fairbourne is a small coastal village in Gwynedd reached via the A493, which runs between Dolgellau and Tywyn along the Mawddach Estuary. The village sits beneath Cader Idris with views across Cardigan Bay, popular with walkers exploring Snowdonia's southern edge. Its narrow gauge steam railway, dating from 1895, runs two miles to the beach and remains one of Wales's oldest heritage lines.
