Fahan

united kingdom

united kingdom

Fahan sits on Lough Swilly's western shore in County Donegal, a handy stop for those exploring the Fanad Peninsula. The village lies on the R247 coastal road, about 25 kilometres northwest of Letterkenny via the N13. Most visitors come through Letterkenny, then head north past Rathmullan before reaching Fahan. The narrow coastal roads need careful driving, particularly in summer when tour buses and caravans crowd the route. Fahan's seventh-century stone cross slab is a real gem, featuring some of Ireland's finest early Christian carvings with intricate Celtic knotwork carved into ancient sandstone.
